Library |
The William G.
Squires Library is
committed to an
active role in the
educational
experiences of all
Lee University
students. The
library staff
recognizes that the
needs of CAPS
students are much
like the needs of
resident students,
but the way the
library meets those
needs will be
different. The
library's goal is to
provide equivalent
access and excellent
service to CAPS
students. |
Off-Campus
Electronic Access |
|
From the library's
homepage
off-campus students
have access to the
library's catalog to
find what resources
the library offers.
This site will also
allow students who
are currently
enrolled in courses
to have access to
many subscription
databases,
e-journals and other
electronic sources.
The "username" and
"password" required
to sign on will be
provided to students
by Squires Library
staff or by CAPS
personnel.
Although one can
find some good
sources on the
Internet through the
use of a search
engine, it is highly
recommended that
students use the
quality materials
available through
the library's
website. The journal
databases provide
indexing and (in
many cases) full
text of scholarly
articles and other
databases facilitate
research. The
library has a nice
collection of
e-books. (http://library.leeuniversity.edu/eresources/cat/ebooks.asp) |
Off-Campus
Delivery of
Materials |
Books:
CAPS students can
request books in the
library collection
to be sent to them
for research. The
library will pay for
the sending of books
(usually by UPS),
while the student
assumes the cost of
returning the
materials. The check
out period is 28
days which includes
the time required
for shipping the
items. If the books
are needed for a
longer period of
time, the student
can request one
14-day extension of
the due date. The
cost of any lost
items or overdue
items will be
charged to the
student and no
additional materials
may be borrowed
until the charges
have been paid.
Articles:
CAPS students can
request to have
specific journal
articles emailed or
faxed to them. |
Off-Campus
Interlibrary Loan |
- Interlibrary
loan is a
cooperative
arrangement by
which one
library borrows
materials from
another for the
use of its
patrons. Squires
Library will
locate items in
other libraries
and obtain them
for CAPS
students.
The online order
form for both
book and article
requests can be
found at the
following link:
http://library.leeuniversity.edu/guides/interlibrary-services.asp. Such
materials might
be sent to the
students
electronically
(e.g., as an
e-mail
attachment) or
by UPS or the
mail system.
Sometimes there
is a charge for
such materials.
- Alternately,
CAPS students
might be able to
borrow materials
through their
local public or
college library.
The rules and
fees vary from
one library to
another so CAPS
students are
encouraged to
ask about this
service at a
library
convenient to
where they live.

Off-Campus Library
Service
If CAPS students
visit the campus
occasionally, it
would be wise to
arrange for a
library orientation
session while they
are here. It is
always wise to
arrange a specific
time so that a
librarian can be
available to give
individual or group
training on how to
use the various
resources provided
by Squires Library.
CAPS students are
encouraged to ask
for help, either to
learn how to find
research materials
or to get help on a
specific assignment.
The number for the
Reference Desk is
423-614-8562. It is
best to call during
the normal working
hours but help is
available during all
hours the library is
open. Questions
concerning the
library can be email
to
library@leeuniversity.edu;
or, you may use the
instant messaging
service found here:
