is to prepare
students for
Christian ministry
in a contemporary
world in the areas
of Bible, Christian
Education,
Leadership, Pastoral
Ministry, and
Theology. The
undergraduate
curriculum is
planned specifically
for the adult
learner by offering
a variety of
formats:
Considering the

CAPSonline Classes
CAPS online courses
offer study via the
Internet and are for
resident credit.
This form of study
blends the best of
independent study
research with the
traditional campus
model in a virtual
classroom
environment. Over
the course of the
semester, students
log in to classes
for online
instructions,
lectures,
assignments,
discussions, and so
forth. Materials are
available 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week,
over the course of
the semester. During
a course the
instructor may
schedule times to
meet online with the
students. These
sessions are for
discussion, lecture,
course mentoring,
etc. The number of
hours necessary to
complete CAPSonline
courses is similar
to that of
traditional resident
courses.
Visit
http://angel.leeuniversity.edu
for information
regarding policies
and procedures for
the program and
scheduled classes. A
current list of
online courses is
available
online.

Independent Study
Independent study
courses offer
qualified students
an opportunity to
study at an
individual pace and
at convenient times
and places.
Responsibility for
progress lies with
the individual
student. This
motivates and
encourages the
student to persist
toward the
achievement of
carefully defined
educational
objectives.
Courses begin the
first of each month;
however, students
may register for the
course at any time.
Materials are
delivered directly
to the student via
UPS, USPS, or other
common carriers.
Course materials
include: course
guide, appropriate
additional
materials, and
textbooks. The
course guides are
designed to direct
learners in a
step-by-step fashion
through an array of
educational
objectives related
to the textbooks.
All learning
materials, from the
course objectives to
final evaluation of
progress, have been
prepared or approved
by professional
educators. In many
cases, the authors
may teach the same
or a similar course
on a resident campus
or serve as an
instructor in one of
the resident
extension classes.
An independent study
course is expected
to be completed in
four months. If it
is not completed at
that time, a student
may request, in
writing, an
additional four
months to finish the
course, provided the
student's account is
paid in full. A
final four-month
extension may be
granted for a fee
per course. After
two extensions (12
months), no more
will be granted. A
grade will be posted
according to the
work submitted.
(Students receive
semester due dates
and options at the
beginning of each
course.)
Examinations
are similar to those
given in resident
courses. They may
consist of
objective, essay and
problem-solving
types of questions.
The number of study
hours necessary to
complete an
independent study
course is
approximately the
same as for resident
courses. The
difference is that
the time normally
spent in class is
used for lesson
preparation. Since
there are no
scheduled classes,
students study when
and where they wish,
and the experience
considerable
financial savings
over attending
traditional campus
classes.
A student may not
request an
examination until he
or she has been
enrolled in a course
a minimum of two
weeks. A two-week
period is required
between the mid-term
and final
examinations.
Examinations in
courses which have
more than two exams
may be taken at
one-week intervals.
Examinations should
be taken at the
Center for Adult and
Professional Studies
or via Lee
University's online
program, ANGEL. If
the examinations
cannot be taken at
the CAPS office, an
approved proctor
may administer the
examination.
Potential proctors
could be the
following:
- A local
college distance
learning program
near you.
- A college
instructor,
administrator,
or librarian.
- A pastor or
full-time
pastoral staff
member.
- For military
personnel, a
commissioned
officer whose
rank is higher
than your rank
or the
educational
officer of your
base.
The Center for
Adult and
Professional Studies
reserves the right
to reject any
proctor. Regardless
of academic
qualifications, no
relative may proctor
an examination. No
proctor fees
authorized.
Proctor
Candidate Form and
Examination Request
Forms are
included in the
guide for each
course. Students who
choose to have a
proctor must contact
the individual
before sending the
Proctor Candidate
form to our office.
The CAPS office will
validate the proctor
prior to releasing
an exam.
Examinations will be
mailed directly to
the proctor at
his/her business
location. If there
should be a proctor
change, CAPS must be
informed.
It is not the
policy of the Center
for Adult and
Professional Studies
Program to return
the graded
examinations to the
student. However,
the student may
review any
examination by
requesting that the
exam be sent to the
proctor. Review is
to be done in the
proctor's presence.
At no time should
copies of the exam
be made. Once the
examination has been
review by the
student, it must be
returned to the CAPS
office by the
proctor. Any
questions concerning
the examination
should then be
directed to CAP
Assistant Director
of Academic
Services.
Grades and
quality points are
assigned and
recorded as follows:

quality
points per

Independent Study
CZS
Section CZS is an
indicator that your
course is
Independent Study
and is semester
based. The CZS
courses comply with
the semester start
and end dates as
established by the
university. All
course work and
exams must be
completed by the
last day of classes
for the semester
enrolled, not
the last day of
finals. An "I"
is assigned to a
student whose work
is incomplete. The
grade becomes "F"
if the work is not
completed by the end
of the following
semester (or at an
earlier date
specified by the
instructor), unless a
written extension
has been approved by
the Vice President
of Academic Affairs.
Withdrawals and
refunds are based
upon the dates
established by the
university policy.
Because these
courses are
Independent Study,
the
responsibility for
progress lies with
the individual
student.
Exams for CZS
courses may be taken
via Lee University's
online program,
ANGEL, or a proctor
may be established
as outlined within
the course guide.
(All summer CZS and
Christmas break
course exams must
be completed on
ANGEL.)
The procedures
for taking exams on
ANGEL are as
follows:
- During the
first week of
the semester an
ANGEL Login and
Password will be
generated. This
information will
be sent to your
Lee University
email address
along with the
ANGEL website,
http://angel.leeuniversity.edu.
- You will
also receive a
second email
confirming the
course in which
you are
enrolled.
- The exams on
ANGEL are
password
protected. Exam
requests may be
done via email
to
caps-exams@leeuniversity.edu
or via fax
(423-614-8377)
at least (3)
days prior to
the desired
testing date. In
your request,
please include
the following:
your name,
course enrolled,
which exam you
wish to take,
and the state
that it will be
taken on ANGEL.
- The
department will
reply via email
the password for
the exam
requested.
Note: It takes
approximately 2-3
weeks for essays and
papers to be graded.
